Jay-Z's Tidal could be bought by Apple

Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal

Okay so we all have had moments when we wished we had Tidal just to listen to 'Life Of Pablo' or some Beyoncè. Tidal releases several exclusive and early content, yet the market is dominated by Spotify and Apple Music.

Big news was just dropped by Wall Street Journal, reporting that Apple is in talks to acquire Jay-Z's Tidal. The report does however explain that it is in earlier stages and might not end in a deal. But it is not shocking that Apple is trying so hard to be #1 when it comes to exclusive content. It has had it's history of exclusives, examples can be Drake's View's album or Taylor Swift, who basically left Spotify.

Tidal is also unique for its ownership, it has a large celebrity ownership with Jay-Z buying it for $56M in March 2015. It also has other celebrity co-owners such as: Calvin Harris, Usher, Rihanna, Kanye West, Chris Martin, Beyonce, and many more.

If Apple manages to get its hands on Tidal, this could be huge for the Music platform as it would have all these artists and their exclusive/early content. And that would be a massive boost for Apple Music from Spotify. Spotify could potentially lose subscribers, as Apple would have exclusives, and it offers student deals, a great family plan. It would be the perfect package with the iOS 10 update of the app.
